CASTRIES, St.Lucia —-St.Lucia’s Prime Minister Kenny Anthony revealed yesterday that his administration has no definite plans at this time to become a shareholder in Liat even as he acknowledged that the regional airline needs significant reform, a revision of its management and more support from regional governments.
Speaking at the end of the three day OECS Heads of Government summit, Anthony who took over from former Prime Minister Stephenson King as Chairman of the sub-regional body told reporters that the decision to support Liat will come after his administration had an opportunity to consider all the factors involved.
“We will make an appropriate statement once my administration has had the opportunity to consider all the issues involved, but at this time we have certainly not arrived at the point where a decision can be taken by the Cabinet of Ministers,” Anthony said.
Late last year St.Vincent Prime Minister Ralph Gonzalves, one of three Liat shareholders indicated that St. Lucia and Dominica were interested in acquiring a stake in the financially strapped airline.
Barbados and Antigua and Barbuda are the other two shareholders of the regional carrier. (CMC)
