JOSH BURKE is taking his talents to the pacific.
Barbados’ promising junior surfer will be heading to the north shore of the Hawaiian Island Oahu for ten days of training under the guidance of world class coach Rainos Hayes as part of this year’s Billabong “Bloodlines” development camp.
The 14-year-old St Winifred’s standout is just one of six elite Billabong junior riders being selected from an international roster to attend the prestigious camp later this month.
According to Blake Pettit, surf marketing manager for Billabong USA, the programme aims to create increased surf skill and technique development while exposing juniors to some of the world’s great surf locations.
A big wave Hawaiian legend in the sport, Haynes has coached 2000 ISA World Junior Champ Joel Centenio, as well as the gold medal-winning Hawaiian junior team in the 2005 ISA World Surfing Games and led the 2007 Hawaiian Tag team to becoming Aloha Cup champions. (PR/JM)
