TWO MAJOR private sector organizations have slammed the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) for demanding a double- digit pay increase for LIME workers.
The criticism from the Barbados Employers’ Confederation (BEC) and the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) came yesterday, hours after the BWU agreed to hold off industrial action to give Minister of Labour Esther Byer-Suckoo the chance to settle the dispute.
However, BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman has warned LIME, formerly Cable & Wireless (Barbados), not to mistake the union’s willingness to cooperate for weakness.
“They are taking our calmness, our willingness to cooperate as a sign of weakness. Believe you me that there is no weakness, and we can deal with Cable & Wireless by another approach,” he said.
