Those who never met or knew calypsonian Phyllis Collymore-Alleyne popularly known as “Froggy”, left feeling as though they did, after her funeral this afternoon.
Froggy, 81, one of Barbados’ earliest female calypsonians, was laid to rest at the Westbury Cemetery amidst musical and spoken tributes signalling her as a cultural icon during the service at the resident Chapel.
It was also revealed by eulogist Peter Boyce that the Barbados Museum had given permission for her acoustic guitar and an award she recently received for her contribution to culture, to be mounted at its Garrison headquarters.
Reverend Davidson Bowen, in his sermon, encouraged the congregants to show love to one another because it could make a difference in people’s lives daily.
The funeral attracted a cross section of Barbadians including the Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley, Minister of Social Care Steven Blackett, Cynthia Forde, Barbados Labour Party Member of Parliament for St. Thomas; entertainers Richard Stoute, Smokey Burke, Mike Sealy, Lord Radio, former journalist and public relations consultant Al Gilkes and promoter Roy Byer.
