ZABRINA HOLDER was the lone record breaker on the second day of the Barbados Amateur Swimming Association’s Long Course National Championship at the Aquatic Centre on Wednesday night.
She established a new mark in the 100 metres butterfly following an exciting opening night on Tuesday when the highlight was a record-breaking performance from Hannah Gill of Pirates Swim Club.
The lone entrant from the 11-12 age group in this event, Gill lowered the record established by Holder in 2009 to 9:49.12.
In the 800 metres event, which attracted five other swimmers, besides Gill, Sariyah Sherry, Kimberley Willoughby and Amara Gibbs all swam under the CARIFTA qualifying time in their respective age groups.
Christian Selby, competing in the Boys’ 13-14 age group, also posted a personal best in the 1 500-metre freestyle.
Accredited as an FINA Olympic qualifier for the London Olympics, swimmers from St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua & Barbuda and Grenada, will be joining the local swimmers when the meet continues today at 6 p.m. (EZS)
