RAIN PELTED the small tent and strong winds blew but the congregation huddled together, some people wearing coats and others with umbrellas to ward off the elements.
A few stood out in the open under their umbrellas, nevertheless dancing to the music that blared from the car park at Vauxhall Primary School.
On the platform, the ministers and worship team kept the tempo up as they led “the church” into a time of gay abandonment. Worship and praise filled the Vauxhall, Christ Church district despite the pouring rain. Some residents watched and listened from the comfort of their patios, taking time to sing along and move to the music.
Testimony after testimony was shared – both in word and song – and shouts of “Hallelujah” and “Amen” filled the open “sanctuary”.This was the scene at Vauxhall Primary School on the last night of a three-night crusade hosted by Pastor William Hamilton of Faith In Christ Ministries.
Williams’ message centred on the power in the name of Jesus.
He chose numerous passages of scripture to support his sermon as he told how the name of Jesus brought healing and deliverance to many.
“The name of Jesus is much more than silver and gold,” he preached, as he spoke of the man at the Gate of Beautiful to whom Peter said: “Silver and gold have I none but such as I have give I unto thee. In the name of Jesus Christ, rise up and walk.”
He added, “The woman with the issue of blood heard about the name of Jesus. There is health, healing, financing and [total] help in that name.
“Sometimes we are crippled in our situation because we fail to make a decision in our hearts to give our lives over to Christ.
“There are many people who are praying in the name of Jesus but are not touching Him. Many people are speaking in the name of Jesus, but they do not know the name.
“Romans 6:23 says: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. There is life in the name of Jesus,” Williams emphasized.
He said that while people would like believers not to talk about Jesus, “there is much power in that name”.“The name of Jesus is more than a swear word. He is the Son of God. Miracles are wrought in that name. The name of Jesus is a powerhouse to those who believe. Jesus came to give life and to give it more abundantly. There is abundance in that name,” Williams preached.
He urged his congregation to let Jesus be the centre of their lives, pleading with those who never gave Jesus a chance to make Him the Lord of their lives.
“There is a remnant of people who understand there is a name above all names and at the name Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God,” he said.Williams warned that as it was in the time of Noah, “God will close the door” to those who choose to remain on the outside – without Christ in their lives.
“The mercy door will close. Make your call and election sure before time changes to eternity,” he pleaded.“Don’t wait until you get the sin out of your life to follow Jesus. Come as you are and let him do the cleaning up.” • To have your church featured in Altar Call please contact Cheryl Harewood at 430-5494 or Email: [email protected]
