BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Mar 16, CMC – Barbados will conduct its first Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) as it seeks to address data gaps for monitoring human development as it relates to women and children in areas such as nutrition, child discipline and education.
The MICS is an international household survey created and funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and will be implemented by the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS).
The survey, which has been conducted worldwide since 1995 and local statisticians will get to understand the process better when through training sessions that begin on March 26.
Data collected from MICS will be used to: develop evidence-based plans and policies; to assist the government in its developmental initiatives; and to monitor social issues concerning women and children’s health, development and protection.
At the end of the exercise, the MICS survey is expected to improve the quality of other national surveys conducted in the future, a government statement said.
