McClean:We’ve not seen CLICO report

Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Senator Maxine McClean, today reiterated that neither Government nor Cabinet had seen any document related to the judicial manager’s report on CLICO, and therefore could not speak to it.
She also said it was time for Barbadians to reinforce its professional standards and other values, as they seem to become “very comfortable admitting to things blowing through windows [and] things falling off a truck”.
Speaking during her wrap-up to the Appropriation Bill, which was passed as the Appropriation Act 2012 in the Upper House, McClean read from the Official Secrets Act 1920, Section 2A to show that persons had no right to retain “any document prejudicial to the safety of the state” when it is contrary to his duty to retain it, and that if such persons communicate any secret official code, word or password, they “shall be guilty of a misdemeanour”.
She said the leaking of any file or document spoke to professionalism as well as to the question of values and secrecy.
“People will tell you all’s fair in love and war and politics is war, but we have to set the limits,” she told the Senate.
