No condoms in school!

WHILE THERE IS a place for appropriate sex education in schools, dispensing condoms there is still not the way to go, says new chairman of the AIDS Foundation of Barbados Inc. Tessa Chaderton-Shaw.
“I can understand why people may have concerns about children, but nowadays we have to talk to our children about sex and sexual behaviour because research data is telling us some of them are having sex in their pre-school years,” she said.
“I think age-appropriate sex education with parental consent is something that is very necessary as not every parent, given their religious or cultural backgrounds, is going to be comfortable with it. So I think parental consent is very important.”
Chaderton-Shaw said people could not “bury their heads in the sand” concerning children and sex and falsely believe children did not know what sex was about.
