For a brief moment yesterday, Parkinson Memorial were in third place at the Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championships.
The girls have been steadily improving, but none of them stands out quite like middle distance runner Sonia Gaskin. Already a winner of the open girls’ 3 000 metres last week, Gaskin came back and broke Sheena Gooding’s 14-year record in the Under-20 girls’ 1 500 metres yesterday.
Not done yet, Gaskin stayed on course for victrix ludorum honours when she stunned Garrison’s Ariel Jackson (left) with a well crafted victory in the 400 metres later in the afternoon and anchored Parkinson to a surprise second-place finish in the 4×100 metres relay.
