The defending champions will reign supreme for another year after holding off all challengers in contrasting style on the final day of the 2012 Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championships yesterday at the National Stadium.
Springer Memorial duly won their tenth straight girls’ title and 14th of the last 15 years with 400.5 points, while among the boys Queen’s College had to come from behind and hold off a strong challenge from The Lodge School.
Springer left The St Michael School a distant second on 184.5 points, Queen’s College slipped to third on 178.5, while Combermere and Harrison College rounded out the Top 5 with 170.5 and 167.5 respectively.
With the Boys’ 4×400 metres still to be run, Queen’s College led by 12 points and even if they lost the relay – which they did – all they needed to do was finish, and anchor Jerome Stuart did just that.
