Cops plea for caution on roads

THERE IS THE PLEA AGAIN from the police for caution on Barbados’ roads.
This follows the latest accident yesterday about 1:15 p.m. involving three vehicles along Whitehall in St Peter.
Three of the five people in the collision were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. 
They are Wayne King, 44, of Apes Hill, St Thomas, who complained of chest pains; Lyman Alleyne, 73, of Lower Carlton, St James; and his passenger 62-year-old Norma Ifill of Ashton Hall, St Peter, who both complained of pains about the body.
Jamar Armstrong, 25, of Benn Hill Woods, Pleasant Hall, St Peter, and his passenger Miah O’Garro, 18, of Ashton Hall, also in St Peter, were treated at the scene for injuries to the shin and hand, respectively.
Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch told the SUNDAY SUN the recent spate of serious accidents had been a major concern.
He noted that so far for the year there had been six road deaths and, if the distressing trend continued, as in the past month, the numbers could well surpass last year’s total of 18 fatalities. 
“There are some very, very basic principles that we all as road users need to remember and employ. Remember the speed limits, practise defensive driving, pay attention to pedestrians and pedal-cyclists, and other persons using the road,” Welch said.
He also urged pedestrians as well to take necessary precautions. (ROG)
