Local drivers will be severely tested when they meet to decide the Barbados Today/Field Insurance Full Throttle 11 Kilometre Tarmac Speed Event on April 15, organized by Motoring Club Barbados Inc. (MCBI).
And club president David Williams, whose concept it is, said the club was trying to keep both competitors and spectator interest in the sport, and it was part of a set of new incentives this year.
“This is part of the process to rebuild the club and its membership, and we are certainly making a concerted effort at getting back on track and we want to have events which give the drivers and spectators a reason to come out and enjoy themselves on Sundays,” Williams said.
Forty cars are expected to contest the event which will be the last chance drivers will get to do any fine tuning and seat time before the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Automotive Art Shakedown Stages Rally on May 6.
Drivers will be given a practice run and three official runs for the day’s action, which follows the club’s first speed event they shared with the BRC – Spring Blaze 1&2 – the first named speed event of the new season.
Williams said the event would have two new features. It will start at 1 p.m and end by 6 p.m to facilitate a church located along the route, and that the course was 11 kilometres long and would certainly provide lots of excitement for spectators.
A 15-minute break will be given between each run.
“There will be designated spectator parking areas and spectators are asked to be there and parked by noon. The club is appealing to all spectators to adhere to both the marshals and the security personnel as this will be vital to the success of this event,” the president explained.
