The sad faces tell the story. West Indies outplayed Australia for the first three days of the opening Digicel Series, but a few unforgettable hours on the penultimate day ultimately led to a disappointing defeat at Kensington Oval yesterday.
The hosts put up some fight on the final day before Australia won by three wickets in fading light just before 5:45 p.m.
Set 192 in 61 overs after polishing off West Indies’ second innings for 148 in the pre-lunch session, Australia lost seven wickets before completing their target with 14 overs remaining.
Narsingh Deonarine, picked more for his batting, gave West Indies a chance of saving – or possibly – winning the match by grabbing four wickets, but Australia held their nerve to complete victory.
