Weymouth Wales returned to their regular schedule with a scintillating 4-0 win over the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) last Thursday at the National Stadium when the Digicel Premier League Football Competition continued.
In another wipeout encounter, Bagatelle won their first match there for the 2012 season, dismissing Pinelands 6-1.
Pinelands have been the whipping boys of late, but their last match indicated a turnaround, narrowly losing to Mackeson Brittons Hill 0-1. However, their performance against Bagatelle showed the complete opposite to last Sunday’s, as they exhibited little purpose or the determination of a team willing to win.
Bagatelle, also on the losing end last match day, rebounded like a team worthy of premiership status. Jamar Grazette led his team with two goals, scoring in the 20th and 71st minutes.
There was also a brace of goals for the diminutive forward John Ross Benn in the 81st and 90th minutes.
In his first season with Bagatelle, Jermaine Best registered his first goal in the 36th minute, while Marcus Best scored in the 44th. Dario Wilson scored Pinelands’ lone goal in the 21st minute.
Wales suffered what they may call a minor stumble in their last match when they drew 0-0 with Pride of Gall Hill, but like hungry lions, they showed a hunger for success.
BDF were expected to put up more of a fight after showing for most of the season that they are quite capable of producing some high quality football when called upon. Skipper Mario Harte was exhibiting the type of performances he produced in his younger years and his strike partners Chai Lloyd and Kyle Gibson were proving to be worthy supporters.
With a heavy focus on the league’s top scorer Dwayne Stanford, strike partner Kemar Headley was granted a little more space and he gratefully accepted by netting the first of two goals in the 43rd minute.
Right foot shot
He met a cross from the right and made no mistake from inside the area placing his right foot shot around goalkeeper Terry Smith.
Headley put his team 2-0 ahead just on the stroke of half-time with another fine finish from inside the area.
The second half was all Wales as they made their final push for victory. Zaeehaeus Polius spearheaded his team to 3-0 in the 83rd minute with a fine piece of skill. He used a soft touch to control the ball and lobbed Smith from approximately 25 metres.
Polius ensured three points for Wales with another fantastic piece of skill in the 90th minute. He picked up the ball from just past the centre circle, dribbled three BDF defenders and then left-footed the ball
into an open goal.
