Doyle: Almond could stay open

IF THE OWNER of the Crane Resort, Paul Doyle, is successful in his bid to purchase Almond Beach Village, approximately half of the rooms will remain operational in the early stages.
But he agreed that the island’s largest all-inclusive resort, which is due to close at monthend, would eventually have to be demolished and rebuilt.
He said this would be done in stages because of Crane’s tradition of building in phases along with the desire to preserve jobs.
“The rooms are not nearly as bad as I would’ve thought they were from reading the Press or reading TripAdvisor, Doyle said. “There are 198 rooms that have been renovated out of 400 and there are some other rooms in buildings that can fairly easily be renovated. I’m just talking some cosmetic things, so we would look to utilize about half of Almond.
