WEST INDIES coach Ottis Gibson has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the drawn second Digicel cricket Test between the West Indies and Australia.
Gibson was charged with a Level 1 offence, contrary to clause 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players or team officials which covers inappropriate public comment.
The incident took place on Tuesday when, during the post-third day’s play media briefing at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, Gibson challenged the efficacy of the Decision Review System (DRS) and its implementation by the match officials.
The West Indies coach pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction so there was no need for a formal hearing.
“In the pre-series meetings it was agreed that players and coaches should not engage in negative media comments,” said ICC match referee Jeff Crowne.
“Ottis accepts that he overstepped the mark during the game and has now accepted his sanction.”
