RELIGIOUS LEADERS are concerned about the general direction in which Barbados seems to be headed.
During a spirited NATION Talkback town hall meeting at the Anne Johnson Auditorium of the St Gabriel’s School Wednesday night, they came face to face with people with alternative views to Christianity, as one local cleric sternly cautioned the island was on route for a “destructive tsunami”.
While strongly contending that Barbadian society needed the church to fend it off, Reverend Lucille Baird of Mount Zion Mission Inc. stressed that “moral impulse is needed”.
“Society needs the church now. We are here for the society,” added Baird, a pastor with more than 20 years experience.
She was joined by Monsignor Vincent Blackett, vicar general of the Roman Catholic Church; Bishop Winston Clarke, acting president of the Barbados Evangelical Association, and Father Michael Maxwell, rector of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, on the religious panel for the first NATION Talkback session for 2012.
