A yacht was on fire at sea this afternoon, off the west coast of Barbados. Personnel from the Barbados Coast Guard were dispatched to investigate the fire.
From initial investigations, the yacht ‘Big Deal’ owned by Sidney Brooker of Frere Pilgrim, Christ Church was completely destroyed.
It has been reported that Mr. Brooker and seven other persons were returning to the island and just after midnight on April 22, the yacht experienced a problem to one of its engines and it caught fire. The occupants abandoned the yacht and were rescued by a passing boat; they returned to the island safely.
