Opposition Leader Owen Arthur has called for more decisive action to transform Barbados and to pull it out of the current economic morass.
“We must transform or perish,” Arthur warned today in an address to the Barbados Association of Office Professionals at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Arthur said Barbados was confronted by the greatest economic crisis in its history and he put forward a prescription to drive transformation of the society and economy.
“It is farcical and irresponsible for the society to be asked to accept the constantly repeated mantra that our problems are due to [the] international recession . . . and that once we ride out that storm, happy days are here again,” he said.
Instead, he suggested an innovative fiscal response, the promotion of entrepreneurship and the removal of all ambivalence to make Barbados an exporter of high quality, premium-priced services.
He was speaking on the topic: Embracing Transformation – A Barbadian Imperative. (GC)
