It will be pace like fire in the Street Vendor Handicap, the eighth race on the card for the 62nd running of the Barbados Guineas tomorrow at the Garrison Savannah.
The ninth and penultimate day of the Barbados Turf Club’s first racing season will see action in eight races beginning at 1:45 p.m.
Outside of the quest to find another Triple Crown winner as the first jewel of the Triple Crown series beckons, Areyoutalkintome will line up against six opponents in the Street Vendor Handicap over 1 100 metres.
The Joseph brothers-owned colt made a triumphant return to the race track in the Sandy Lane Spa Sprint at the identical distance. He will once again carry the top weight of 133 pounds against three-year-olds and older horses rated 115-140 and horses rated 114 and below over 1 100 metres.
He needed that race, but come tomorrow his opponents, many of whom he has disposed of, will now re-engage him at a far more favourable weight. Rest assured that the David Archie Yearwood-trained super horse will fight to the line.
Blue Diamonds Stable will field four runners here, all of whom will be looking for revenge at their respective weights.
Race 5, the Don Juan Handicap for three-year-old and older horses rated 63-85 and open to horses rated 62 and below over 1 800 metres, will hold special interest. Fans will witness the long awaited debut of Philip Batson-owned and trained, Kentucky-bred colt Powerman.
The son of Lemon Drop Kid and Cheerful has been working extremely well since his arrival and is down to carry 129 pounds.
Zaltarr and Victor Ludorum will both share the top impost of 130 pounds.
The latter, also trained by Batson, has been in good form recently, while Zaltarr’s performances recently have not been in sync with this time of the year.
Must Be The Money (125) was a hard-fought winner last race day and should once again be considered.
Uncle Jerry was disqualified after passing the post first in the Grand Stand Posse Mervyn Rollins Crystal Vase Handicap over 1 800 metres.
He is up in ratings once again, but could very well have another say in the outcome of this event at the pennyweight of 110 pounds.
Another race of great interest is the third race, the Zarmella Handicap for non-West Indian-bred three-year-olds and older maidens over 1 570 metres.
Aysha Syndicate’s Fusaichi Ridge takes 130 pounds. She had very good form before her last effort, which was way below her best, and if she has fully recovered from the illness that affected her, she should go close.
