A NEVER-SAY-DIE Sri Lanka held their nerve at crucial moments to record a nail-biting one-wicket win over the West Indies Women cricketers and level the three-match One-Day International Series going into tomorrow’s deciding match back at Windward Club.
The Sri Lankans, who won the toss and elected to field, fought doggedly to restrict the home team to 197 for nine from 50 overs before coming back to reach the winning target with the last pair at the crease and a couple deliveries remaining.
Player-Of-The-Match Chamani Senevirathne smashed Stacy Ann King’s fourth ball of the final over down the ground for four to set off celebrations among her teammates, who rushed onto the field to hail their heroine.
West Indies were anchored by knocks of 45 (76 balls, 3×4, 1×6) by opener Juliana Nero and 56 (67 balls, 5×4, 1×6) from Guyanese all-rounder Shemaine Campbelle.
