INTENSE LOBBYING by a local cruise company has not only convinced an international ship to return to Barbados, but also resulted in another cruise liner making Barbados its home port for the first time.
The efforts by Foster & Ince have the potential to bring more than 60 000 additional visitors to the island.
Chief executive officer Martin Ince told the SATURDAY SUN that Mein Schiff from TUI Cruises out of Germany was making Barbados its home port in November while P&O Cruises has announced that its Azura ship, which was to terminate services from November, will return next January.
“In January 2011 my team had seen that there was going to be a significant decline in the 2012-2013 cruise season. We started a very intense global travel plan in 2011 to attempt to have a recovery on these numbers.
