Volleyball Classic hot at Brandons

WITH?A?TOTAL prize of $3 000 at stake, a whopping 51 games were played when the inaugural Warrens Beach Volleyball Classic was staged at the Brandons Beach on Sunday.
Divided into novice, intermediate and open sections, teams competed for novelty prizes in the lower divisions while the Open men and women battled for ranking to advance to the next three weeks of action which will climax on May 20 with scaled winnings of $250, $500 and $750.
One of the chief coordinators, former junior national, Julia Broome was concerned during the morning over the typical late registration of some of the teams but she expressed pleasant surprise with the number of eventual participants and the keenest of the competition, particularly among the novice and intermediate teams.
“We knew what to expect from the big guns in the men’s and women’s open sections, but we were pleasantly shocked by the action in the novice sections with many of the Barbados junior players competing on the beach for the first time and giving a good showing.
