HARD-HITTING WEST INDIES WOMEN cricketer Deandra Dottin waited until the final match to produce her best knock, but rain had the final say when the fifth Twenty20 cricket match against Sri Lanka was prematurely abandoned as a no-result at the Queen’s Park Oval yesterday.
With wickets falling around her, Dottin smashed four fours and a six in a 34-ball unbeaten 52, helping the West Indies Women to 92 for five in 18.2 overs but persistent rain brought the match to a sudden end.
It meant the Sherwin Campbell-coached West Indies outfit prevailed 3-1 in the T20 series following a 2-1 triumph in the preceding One-Day International series.
And in a congratulatory message to the team, West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Julian Hunte said it was heartening to see the way the players had developed as individuals and as a team since the women’s game was restructured and reorganized in the Caribbean less than five years ago.
