Doctors and the Minister of Health were at it again yesterday – this time over pay.
But by last night both parties seemed eager to meet to resolve the issue.
President of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP), Dr Carlos Chase, charged that some members had not been paid for up to six months. He also said the matter was brought to the attention of Minister of Health Donville Inniss but was among outstanding issues to be raised at BAMP’s general meeting on Saturday.
“Some of the fellows were working three, four, five, even six months without being paid in the public sector and that is not good enough,” said Chase in an interview with Starcom Network Inc. in which he added that “pay has been tardy, slow and sporadic”.
However, his claims were denied by Inniss, who said he was “not aware of any doctors who have not been paid by the Ministry of Health; certainly, not any doctor that is on a contract”.
