The Nation’s Online Editor Carol Martindale looks at What’s Trending today.
The story this morning which has readers talking is about the residents of Kingland who say they are living in fear after three pit bulls attacked Deborah Darlington and her family on Saturday.
Reverend Grantley Ashby of the Pentecostal Church of Christ, who assisted the family, said the recent attack in Jasper Avenue was not the first in the district. He said two weeks ago the dogs attacked another resident and prior to that “a lady was screaming murder, the dogs were attacking her too”.
This is what readers had to say:
Julia Moseley: “The sad thing is that it’s not the dogs, its some owners who turn them into killing machines. Fact: by nature they are very sociable, loving dogs that need a lot of love and attention. But because of their strength and build, irresponsible owners abuse them to turn them into fighting dogs and that’s where the danger comes. ..”
Al Wright: “Many of these dogs are sometimes more than pets. They are used as a means of intimidation to the community. …”
Conchita Moseley: “ You have to know how to train a dog. Therefore the Government should put in place some tough measure. Some of these dogs are not even licensed, some are not even registered with a vet, some are not even taken out for exercise on a regular basis: if people are terrified the Government must step in.”
The other story trending is the about a doctors pay row. President of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP), Dr Carlos Chase, charged that some members had not been paid for up to six months. But Minister of Health Donville Inniss dismissed the claims.
Again, readers responded.
Wayne T Griffith: “This doesn’t make sense. They were either paid or not. BAMP says no and the Minister says “he is not aware”. It is either YES or NO.”
John Da Silva: “I sense a Commission of Enquiry coming on!”
