Prime Minister Freundel Stuart is big on services.
And he wants both CARICOM and Mexico to follow his lead.
The Prime Minister today called for greater collaboration between Mexico and the region in a number of service areas, but mainly tourism since the Central American country is a leading light in that area in this hemisphere.
Stuart made the call whilst delivering a special address at Hilton Barbados, during the official opening ceremony of the second Mexico-CARICOM Summit.
“Barbados and other CARICOM countries are well aware of the significant steps that Mexico has taken to advance its market share in an increasingly volatile global environment, and we acknowledge the leadership role in highlighting the enormous and under-appreciated contribution which travel and tourism make to sustainable development. We hope that the federal government active involvement in the sector will lead to Mexico’s renewed and active involvement in the Caribbean Tourism Organization,” Stuart told delegates.
The Prime Minister noted that with Mexico on board offering its expertise, it would greatly enhance tourism development for the entire Caribbean. (BA)
