DLP COLUMN: DLP better for Barbados

I keep focused on the goal ahead, not only to the development ofBarbados, but the return of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) to office after the next general election. – Freundel Stuart, party leader and president of the Democratic Labour Party and Prime Minister of Barbados, May 2012.
Dear Comrades,
The decision in 2008 was the right one as Barbadians indicated the DLP was better for Barbados.
A poll delivers a snapshot of the way people are feeling at a particular point in time about a variety of things. Our experience in government has always been marred by a heavy dose of political propaganda coming from the offices of the Leader of the Opposition.
We know the attempt to conceal the growing rift between Owen Arthur and Mia Mottley has failed and so “Destroy DLP Party Leader” is in effect. On this occasion, our people are immune to the utterances coming from the other side.
We know, as Dear Loving People, that our track record shows we are ahead on meeting the social, economic and political needs of the people. Party leader and Prime Minister Stuart was on the ball when he identified that our focus as a party had to be on the development of Barbados and our return to office.
Our people must continue to shout out loud our many achievements:
Education
• New Blackman And Gollop Primary School.
• New Maria Holder Nursery School in St Thomas.
• New Thelma Berry Nursery School, St David’s, Christ Church.
• New sixth form schools: Foundation and St Michael’s.
• New human resource development strategy.
Health
• Adequate health care for all still remains a top priority of Government’s.
• Increased specialized care is now available at some polyclinics – Warrens and Winston Scott.
• St John Polyclinic is on target for an October completion date. It will provide several services in addition to health and it will serve many catchment parishes.
• The Queen Elizabeth Hospital – the plant has been continually refurbished and upgraded, with improved services and facilities. All theatres are functioning well, outstanding specialist positions were filled, staff morale has improved, waiting times have been reduced, the nursing complement is adequate, there are fewer patient complaints and recently announced initiatives will boost health care.
• The Barbados Drug Service – has been reorganized and streamlined to make it more efficient. The process has stemmed the haemorrhaging and burgeoning cost of the service. There is now a more patient-focused formulary in place that also embraces generic prescriptions.
We urge Barbadians to focus on what is better for Barbados and how the Democratic Labour Party has been able to ensure a safe, secure and stable environment.
We have met all challenges head-on and responded by strengthening our social safety net.
Comrades, the call has been made to put on your political armour and go out into the highways and byways and share our success. This party is calling its members and supporters to report for duty. Barbados needs the Democratic Labour Party. The DLP is better for Barbados.
– Your comrade,
Douglas L. Phillips.
Servant of the people
• Douglas Leopold Phillips is a pseudonym for the Democratic Labour Party.
