GOVERNMENT IS CURRENTLY working on a number of medium and long-term strategies to propel the manufacturing sector and make it sustainable.
This disclosure from Prime Minister Freundel Stuart as he delivered the feature address at last night’s official opening of BMEX at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Without giving details, Stuart said: “Meetings are ongoing with all stakeholders, including their representative organizations . . . . We are currently mapping out strategies with their input to get the sector on the path to progress and sustainability.”
He said his Government had recognized the significant contribution of the sector to the economy and had to therefore “employ a more targeted approach”.
He said “over the next few months” the government would be working “assiduously” to eliminate some of the issues plaguing the industry.
“We will review current legislation and make amendments and introduce new legislation where necessary,” disclosed Stuart.
In the medium term there will be the hosting of a manufacturers’ forum with the Ministry of Industry, Small Business and Rural Development. (MM)
