Sagicor UWI’S dominance of local cricket was exemplified yesterday after they crushed Seven Seas Police by an innings and 18 runs to complete their second successive victory in the LIME Elite Division.
The win, completed before tea, earned the three-time defending champions a maximum 20 points and lifted them to the top of the table on 38 points, following victory over CGI Maple in the opening series.
Police, resuming the final day of the second-round match on 75 for five – 100 runs behind with five wickets in hand – were routed for 157.
This was despite a sixth-wicket stand of 72 between Larry Babb and Callitos Lopez.
The two tall elegant right-handers batted with few alarms as Babb struck seven fours and two sixes scoring 57, while Lopez stroked four fours and a six in compiling 34.
Against the run of play, Babb became Jonathan Carter’s second of four wickets as the innings fell into serious decline.
Without any addition, Babb, Jamar Yearwood, Khamal Sealy and Lopez all fell with the score on 147.
After the demise of Babb, who was caught at point driving, both Yearwood and Sealy were lbw to Carter while Lopez was caught at the wicket off Carlos Brathwaite.
Police plunged to their second consecutive defeat when Jason Smith was run out with the score on 157.
Carter, who will join the West Indies “A” team in a couple of days to play against India “A”, took four for 15 and match figures of eight for 48 along with 75 in the first innings.
