BCCI tells Govt: Adjust tax bands

Executive director of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) Lisa Gale says people should not be surprised that Government has moved to retain the value added tax (VAT) at 17.5 per cent.
However, the senior BCCI official was adamant that the administration should either adjust the income tax bands or return entertainment and travel allowances to their tax-free status.
This move, she said, was important to ensure that Barbadians had more disposable income in the face of rising inflation.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler returned to Parliament yesterday – three days before the VAT rate at 17.5 per cent legally expired – to extend indefinitely the current rate. (GE)
