Contractor sent strong message?

A SMALL? CONTRACTOR who has been complaining bitterly about not being paid by a popular Government agency is now even more out of pocket after his vehicle mysteriously burnt this week.
He is left to wonder who could have done this and what was the motive since it doesn’t seem that it was an accident.
Though the matter is in the hands of the police, people who know about this man’s run-ins of late are wondering if the fire is a result of his agitation.
They argue that people should know when to quit and since he has been insisting on his rights and mashing corns in the process, they are guessing that someone sent him a strong message.
Political activists who have heard these ponderings have, however, dismissed them as just loose talk, intended to stir up strife. They all agree though that this man cannot look to his parliamentary representative for help as the two of them are no longer close.

Residents cry foul
TWO RESIDENTS of an urban housing district are hopping mad about what they call unfair treatment.
Their beef is that officials ordered them to pull down extensions built on to their homes, while a man who is in the same boat but is a known friend of a big-up politico has not been similarly dealt with.
From what Cou Cou was told, the officials did go by the particular individual’s place but he made one phone call and all action ceased.
The two homeowners are now itching to have a word with the politico. They plan to remind him of how many votes are in their houses – and how his friendship will cost him dearly.

Ready for the bell?
PEOPLE IN A CHRIST CHURCH district are saying Christmas is either coming early or general elections must be around the corner.
That’s because of the flyers circulating about a new sports competition with $31 000 in prize money, plus a 40-inch TV, a laptop and 10 Blackberry phones up for grabs.
What makes some people think that this month-long competition is geared towards creating a “feel-good” environment is that all of the matches are being played in a particular constituency at a venue that can’t take paying patrons, which means the whole thing has to be sponsored.
They reason that the only person who spends such large sums in this fashion is a politician. And politicians tend to do this only when the bell is set to ring.
Stay tuned for more on this.

Eyes on big pick
A CERTAIN BAJAN official is said to be going after a big regional post that will soon be up for grabs. But locals in the know are wondering if he will be taking his deputy with him as well.
They’re asking this because they say the deputy is the man who really runs things locally though this popular man has the title as the one in charge.
These insiders contend that this man may be a nice guy and does have the charisma to make it big outside of these shores, but he will always need a good deputy to work out the little details that keep businesses turning over.

Oops, wrong station!
Just a few days ago, a moderator didn’t seem to remember which radio station he was on, and started the programme with the wrong welcome message.
The outspoken man, who likes to talk his talk, got it right a few seconds later to the relief of the producer and the radio station.
