Lee’s plan to cut energy costs

A VETERAN PLAYER in the public transportation industry has offered Government a suggestion that he says could save it about $100 million in fuel costs every year.
Morris Lee, former head of the Association of Public Transport Operators, who currently serves as a member of the group’s interim executive, has proposed that the Government help public service vehicles (PSVs) owners in Barbados retrofit their vehicles to operate on battery power, phasing out diesel fuel and eliminating the emissions that come with it.
“We’re talking about no more diesel, no more oil, no more oil filters, no more radiators, no more mufflers, no more noise,” he told the DAILY NATION as he extolled the benefits of going electric.
And as he embarks on an effort to transition his entire fleet – with or without the help of Government – Lee further suggested that islandwide retrofitting be made “optional at first and mandatory after five years”.
