Shutdown ends clean-up

PROMINENT?BUSINESSWOMAN?Asha “Mrs Ram” Mirchandani officially closed the doors to Furniture Ltd yesterday, effectively halting the cleaning inspection of the premises that was being carried out by the Environmental Health Department.
Sources told the DAILY?NATION?that Mirchandani informed health officials on Sunday, after consultation with her attorneys, that she was closing the Cumberland Street store for renovations and would reopen in December.
Last Saturday, she began what was supposed to be an extensive clean-up operation of the store, which was fully stocked with furniture, clothing, appliances, and many other items, after health officials and the Barbados Fire Service had earlier carried out a detailed inspection of the premises.
The action prompted Minister of Health Donville Inniss to issue a statement saying that the business had to be cleaned as a matter of urgency in the best interest of the public as well as the staff.
