Beautifying Flower Alley

FLOWER ALLEY is the name of one of the many alleys in The City, located near the Lower Broad Street taxi stand.

Flower Alley is also the name of a thoroughbred racehorse owned by Eugene Melnyk, a Ukrainian Canadian businessman who lives in Barbados.

He has decided to spruce up Flower Alley in The City in honour of his horse.

Neil Roetts, who works for Melnyk, was in Bridgetown yesterday supervising the work.

He said Flower Alley had an offspring named I’ll Have Another, which was vying to be only the twelfth horse in history to become a Triple Crown winner by adding the Belmont Stakes to his Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes victories.

“In recognition of Flower Alley [the horse], Melnyk has adopted Flower Alley [the street]. He is trying to fix up the alley with flowers and plants, as well as painting it,” he said.  (CA)
