BARBADOS is expected to spend almost $1/2 million on an 18-member contingent to the London?Olympics, that could include sprinter Shakera Reece and high-flying junior star Akela Jones.
According to Glyne Clarke, manager of operations at the Barbados Olympic Association, the team cost of approximately $400 000 is less than half the amount for previous Games.
Clarke said the cost was below $1/2 million this time because of the small size of the team for the XXX Olympiad slated for the English capital from July 27 to August 12.
“When you look at the preparations for the Games, our cost should be between $350 000 and $400 000. That’s because of the size of the team which will be much smaller than at previous Olympics. When we send teams to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC)?Games, Commonwealth and PanAm, you are looking at $1 million and upwards,” he said.
