The SWEET Crop Over FEELING turned somewhat sour yesterday.
So tense was it at the National Cultural Foundation’s (NCF) West Terrace headquarters yesterday afternoon that some calypsonians threatened the media, one even grabbing a photographer’s camera; and the NCF barred the media from an alleged draw for positions in the Sweet Soca semi-finals.
It all started in the morning with Edwin Yearwood, a last-minute inclusion in the competition, “declining the offer” to compete. Edwin had been put into the competition last Thursday after the semi-finals 16 and reserve Malika had been named on Wednesday.
In a letter to the media from Holland, he said: “While I view this as a great opportunity, I had to sit and think some more; and to my mind the way it unfolded is not in the best interest of the NCF or the credibility of the competition . . . .”
