Patrons of First Citizens Pan Fusion are in line for some surprises and a bigger show.
That’s the word from the National Cultural Foundation’s (NCF) Karen Pestaina, producer of the event.
During the media launch yesterday at First Citizens in Warrens, St Michael, she said: “Last year was a success and this year the growth is going to be even bigger. It [the show] will have something for everyone.”
Pestaina, who described Pan Fusion as her baby, said the show would be offering many surprises this season.
“It isn’t just soca; we will have every genre of music. This year we are showing the beauty of the instruments,” she added.
Chief executive officer (CEO) of the NCF John Clarke said that he was impressed by the growth of pan in Barbados.
“Pan has grown considerably and particularly in the Crop Over Festival,” he said. “The growth of pan in the festival has been so impressive that it has easily become one of the most anticipated signature events of Crop Over.”
He urged businesses to follow the example of First Citizens and support some of the cultural events.
“In light of these contributions from First Citizens, I want to encourage corporate Barbados to partner with the NCF as we continue to develop new cultural products that bring a fresh look and feel to this national festival. The success of a new industry depends on your support,” he said.
Renowned pannist Terry Mexican Arthur, who will be one of the headliners for the July 12 event at Ilaro Court, said: “Anything to do with pan I am excited to do. Let us take pan even higher every year. I am just looking forward to producing the best 45-minute show I can.”
Arthur will also be performing with former Square One band mate Blood, as well as Biggie Irie, Gabby, Red Plastic Bag, Alison Hinds and Willie Curr at the Prime Minister’s official residence.
Another headliner for the show, Ken “Professor” Philmore of Trinidad and Tobago, said in a telephone interview during the launch: “I am really looking forward to be coming to Barbados for Pan Fusion. I am ready and very excited.” (DB)
