Not even a gallant four-hour attempt by Minister of Education Ronald Jones could dissuade the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) from intensifying industrial action at The Alexandra School earlier this year.
This was revealed to a commission of inquiry yesterday by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Evelyn Humphrey.
Humphrey said she attended a meeting on January 14, though she was on holiday, and the BSTU, through its president Mary-Anne Redman and consultant Patrick Frost made it clear the only thing that would bring them back to work was separation of principal Jeff Broomes from the school.
Humphrey said this after being read various excerpts of the minutes from that January 14 meeting by commission attorney Michael Yearwood.
