A SMALL GROUP of demonstrators, including two young children, on Wednesday jumped on the opportunity for a regional audience to push for the decriminalization of marijuana, as CARICOM leaders began their summit in St Lucia.
While Heads of Government gathered inside the Sandals Grande St Lucian Spa & Resort to tackle issues affecting the region, members of the Cannabis Movement of St Lucia, led by chairman Andre Decaires, camped outside the gates calling for their cause to be “high on the agenda”.
Decaires insisted they were not fighting simply for recreational use of the plant, stressing it also had commercial potential.
“We want to start a hemp industry . . . . You can make medicines, other materials from the herb but people have been using negative propaganda to demonize the plant,” he told the WEEKEND NATION.
