Dry boxing spell

It’s been 12 years since a boxer from the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) Sports Programme qualified for the Olympic Games and Shawn Terry Cox, the last person to do so, wants to know what is happening with the programme.
“This will be three Olympics that we haven’t had a boxer from the Sports Programme representing Barbados. It has me really concerned about what is going on with the boxing programme,” Cox told MIDWEEKSPORT in an interview recently.
“I am one who loves boxing. I was in the programme for 13 years. I’ve travelled all over the world through the Sports Programme. It was a joy for me to be in the Sports Programme and represent my country at the 2000 Olympics. People have been saying to me that I would be the last one to ever represent Barbados at the Olympics in boxing, but I hope not.”
While in the BDF Sports Programme, Cox attended three Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, where he won gold, silver and bronze in the light heavyweight division. He also attended three Commonwealth Games and three Pan Am Games. He won gold at the Commonwealth Boxing Championships, being the only boxer from the English-speaking Caribbean to do so, bronze at the Military Games and was a nine-time Caribbean Boxing Champion.
