Sir Roy warns South Coast hotel

Sir?Roy Trotman is warning a South Coast hotel that industrial action could be pending unless it addresses conditions that are “less than humane and less than decent”.
The Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU)?general secretary said that this was the case at the Silver Point Villa Hotel in Silver Sands, Christ Church.
“We are hearing of breaches in the terms of employment of workers; we are hearing of complaints regarding the occupational safety and health conditions under which people are required to work,” he said.
Sir Roy told a Press conference at BWU?headquarters at Solidarity House yesterday that there is an issue of termination without cause and of the employer not meeting with the union.
“We are particularly concerned about this, coming as it does at this time. It really opens the door for a spate of industrial incidents, and we do not believe that is in the best interest of Barbados and especially not in the tourism sector,” he said. (MK)
