Chelsea Tuach isn’t only riding on top of the waves.
She’s also on top of the world.
Tuach, Barbados’ top female surfer, captured her third international title of the year when she won the Sixth Annual Makka Pro Surf Contest, which was held in Jamaica recently.
It was the fourth successive time Tuach has won the event, dating back to 2008 when she won the competition at the age of just 12.
The victory adds to an already impressive list for the year, Tuach also having won the ROXY Women’s Pro held in Florida in April and the Under-18 Girls’ and the Open Women’s Divisions of the Olympus Surf Contest held in Costa Rica in June.
Chelsea Roett, another Barbadian, finished second, while Chelsea Graham from the United States was third.
The win also secured the overall Caribbean Championship in the Open Women’s Division for Tuach, after impressive showings in the three-round series, which featured events in Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad.
Her next challenge is the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Paul Mitchell SuperGirl Pro Six-Star Women’s event in which the world’s best professional women surfers will be competing at Oceanside Pier, California, from August 9 to 12.
“I’m really excited to have gained a slot in this my first ASP event against the best female surfers,” an elated Tuach said.
“This is what I have dreamed about and been working towards for the past eight years.” (RB)
