THE CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING a new set of promotions within the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) is now before the court.
The matter resumes in chambers today before Justice Randall Worrell, who reportedly put the planned promotions on hold yesterday, ahead of next Tuesday’s hearing of an application filed on behalf of 15 officers, who are challenging their omission from the force’s promotions list.
The move to the High Court effectively blocks 15 other police officers from receiving their certificates of promotion at a ceremony, which was scheduled for this afternoon at the RBPF’s headquarters in Roebuck Street. The officers were notified of the development yesterday by fax.
They include Margaret Stephens, a 31-year veteran, who has been earmarked for a double promotion. Stephens, 53, who once served in the Special Branch, was slated to move from inspector to superintendent.
