The Mackies are on a mission.
Barbados’ surfing duo of Bruce and Dane Mackie both turned in impressive performances at the recently concluded Makka Pro which was held in Yallahs, Jamaica.
Bruce had a dominant showing to emerge as the Western Atlantic Professional Series Caribbean Champion, while Dane was crowned the Junior Pro Champion.
Competing in the third leg of the 2012 WAPS Caribbean Championships, Bruce finished fourth in the Open Men’s Pro Division and ninth in the Junior Pro after being edged out at the quarter-final stage.
He is currently ranked third overall in the Western Atlantic Surf Series Men’s Pro Tour for 2012, after competing in the November International Pro – Barbados, Kona Pro – New Smyrna, Florida, Trinidad International Pro and the Makka Pro.
Along with winning the Junior Pro Division, Dane also placed a commendable fifth in the Open Men’s Pro.
In the Junior Pro final, his total score of 16.44 was the highest in all the finals at the event and well ahead of second-placed Nathan Behl of the United States (15.40) and Jamaica’s Elishame Beckford (14.33).
Jordan Heaselgrave of Barbados placed fourth. (RB)
