Barbadians could be in for a very wet final weekend of Crop Over, as a newly formed weather system threatens to drench Friday’s Pic-O-De-Crop Finals and Saturday’s Foreday Morning jam.
Meteorological officials are also advising patrons of Bridgetown Market and other popular last-lap events to closely monitor the progress of the developing tropical storm, while Government has announced that a contingency plan is already in place should bad weather force a decision to relocate the calypso finals from Kensington Oval to the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.
Yesterday, Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley stressed that the staff and team at the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) “will continue to monitor the weather and keep in contact with the Meteorological Office”.
“It is still early days yet. We have received the information, and members of staff of the NCF are monitoring and will ensure that whatever actions need to be taken, are taken at the appropriate time,” he said.
