POLICE ARE REPORTING SUCCESS in catching criminals red-handed as a result of surveillance cameras installed in high-traffic areas and, in a few weeks, those eyes will be constantly watching over the entire City.
Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin told the DAILY?NATION that by the end of this month the Bridgetown closed circuit television (CCTV) project would be completed – a development that he said would be a “huge leap forward” in protecting citizens and visitors to the island.
“I think that we [police] already do well but this will certainly add to our efforts to protect visitors and Barbadians. This is going to make a big difference for public safety in Bridgetown, a huge difference,” Dottin said of the security project, made possible through the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc (BTI).
The expectation is that lawmen will be able to catch potential criminals in the act, or apprehend perpetrators of illegal activity in Bridgetown, as has been the case in other parts of the island where security cameras are already in place.
