The Barbados Meteorological Services has upgraded the area of low pressure over the mid-Atlantic to a Tropical Depression.
On its present track, local Met officials are predicting that it is expected to be in the vicinity of Barbados and the Lesser Antilles on Saturday.
“At 5p.m the center of the depression was located near 13.7°N, 43.8°W or about 1 100 miles or 1 770km to the east of Barbados. The depression is presently moving towards the west at about 20mph, 32kmh . . . Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph, 55 kmh with higher gusts” stated the updated weather bulletin issued this evening around 5 p.m.
Officials are also saying that slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and the Depression could become a Tropical Storm tomorrow.
The Met department will be issuing advisories on this system from 11 a.m tomorrow. (CM/PR)
