Peirce event tempting

With all eyes?on the third jewel of the Barbados Triple Crown – the United Insurance Barbados Derby – the supporting feature, the T.A. Tommy Peirce Memorial Trophy Handicap, looks very appetizing.
The 1 570 metres event for three-year-olds and older horses rated 118-140 and also opened to horses rated 117 and below, is one of nine races on the Barbados Turf Club’s eighth day of the second season starting at 1 p.m.
A record 106 horses have been entered on the United Insurance Company Race Day at the Garrison Savannah tomorrow.
Lord Michael Taylor-owned Show Me The Money, shouldering 130 pounds, has gone without a victory in his last four tries over an eight-month span. This colt has had his share of problems but at this distance he should not be dismissed totally.
Bipin, taking 127 pounds, has been well rested and should report to the starter fighting fit and ready.
Little Man Arran, handicapped at 111 pounds after a lean run of form, has sparked with back to back success and it will be interesting to see how he copes with this group.
Daga, carrying 122 pounds, has endured a spell of bad luck in most of her outings against this company. If she can put the bogey behind her she should be a factor. Giovedi and Cavaichi are worth having a look at.
One of racing’s brightest prospects Shared Adventure, burdened with 130 pounds, looks set to take out an insurance policy over his seven opponents in Race 6 – Ui Management Incorporated Trophy Handicap for three-year-olds over 1 570 metres. Indian Officer and Aristodemus, both shouldering 108 pounds, appear likely challengers.
The Altman Real Estate Trophy Handicap for three-year-olds and older horses rated 60-85 over 1 100 metres has the makings of a real speed fest.
Blue Diamonds Stable’s Istanbul will share weight all around as he carries 133 pounds. Not the quickest on his feet from the gates, he will be expected to rally from off the pace, but his burden could prove detrimental.
Janaki shoulders the second highest weight of 132 pounds. While her form is good, the draw does her no favours.
Zaltarr, a winner of one of his last two starts, returns to his comfort zone in this event. The 129 pounds he is being asked to take will only be a problem if Mother Nature doesn’t intervene.
Slip Stream (128) is very much on the comeback and if she gets a hard and true track, she could take this bunch for a spin early on.
The island’s leading West Indian two-year-old winners Vanity Affair and Nekitta will clash again in the opening event the R.L. Seale Company Limited Trophy Condition race over 1 100 metres.
Vanity Affair drew first blood when the pair met in the Style And Flair Allotted Weights Condition race over 1 000 metres. Tomorrow’s additional half of a furlong seems to give Nekitta the advantage.
